Event Description

Benefits Second Harvest Food Bank

WHAT: Spread the Love Peanut Butter Drive Benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank WHEN: April 2 – Kickoff; drive runs through April 30 WHERE: All month long, peanut butter donations will be accepted at several locations around the greater Lafayette area, and gifts can be made online at no-hunger.org/spreadthelove. (List attached and online at same website) One in five families in Louisiana is at risk for hunger. In Lafayette Parish alone, nearly 34,000 of our neighbors are unsure of their next meal. Second Harvest Food Bank helps provide food for those in need year-round. Monetary and food donations of all kinds are always welcome, but this month, in honor of National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day, they are asking for donations of peanut butter or other nut butters specifically. During the entire month of April, donate jars of peanut butter at any participating location or donate easily online at no-hunger.org/spreadthelove “Peanut butter is one of our most requested items,” says Natasha Curley, Second Harvest food sourcing specialist and Spread the Love lead. “It requires no cooking, so it is a convenient protein source, especially for children and seniors. In addition, it supplies healthy fats, potassium, and dietary fiber – all which help people feel full longer.” “This campaign comes at the perfect time, as we are preparing for the summer months,” says Second Harvest President and CEO Natalie Jayroe. “Many children in our area rely on free meals at school and often struggle more during the summer when those meals are not available. The peanut butter you donate will help ensure that area children, seniors, and families will have something nutritious to eat.” For a list of locations or to donate online, visit no-hunger.org/spreadthelove
