Cheryl Waters

Cheryl Waters hosts The Midday Show on 90.3 FM KEXP Seattle, and online at As the On-Air Events Coordinator, Waters also books the artists that perform at the KEXP live in-studio performances, live remote broadcasts and KEXP events.

Waters has been a DJ at KEXP since 1994. Her knowledge of and passion for music, both new and old, is evident in her diverse shows. She was the music critic for Seattle NPR station KUOW for more than 10 years. In addition to music, Waters is passionate about books and film.

When two of my favorite musicians, Britt Daniel of Spoon and Dan Boeckner of Handsome Furs and Wolf Parade, joined forces and, along with powerhouse drummer Sam Brown of New Bomb Turks, created Divine Fits, I thought it was a dream, as if someone had hand-crafted a band just for me! Divine Fits brings the prodigious songwriting and performing talents of Boeckner and Daniel together to create a captivating and energetic collection of songs that will delight fans both new and old.

When electro-pop producer Grimes (a.k.a. Claire Boucher) visited the KEXP studios, we witnessed a young artist full of energy, humility and creativity. Enveloped in a fashionable oversized coat, she plopped down on the floor in the middle of the studio, surrounded herself with equipment, and began making magic with pedals and knobs. Her ethereal vocals — rising and falling one moment, weaving and darting another — and heady mix of sounds left us feeling a bit intoxicated.
