This week Bayou to Beltway talks to Dr. Rick Swanson (UL Lafayette Department of Political Science), and Skyra Rideaux (Assistant to Lafayette Consolidated Government President/Mayor Joel Robideaux). Our conversation will focus on a presentation that Dr. Swanson has made several times in recent weeks on research he has undertaken into the history of Lafayette’s Civil Rights Movement. This research has produced some unexpected insights and caused citizens to question their understanding of Lafayette’s treatment of black citizens and the role of race in Lafayette’s politics today.
