If acceptance is really the final stage of grief, Ghosts I've Met's quietly stunning The Light Opera EP could be the soundtrack to the final phase in the death of a relationship. Wistful but resolved, hushed and measured, its muted pangs — augmented by spectral harmonies and exquisitely tasteful accents — are candid and all the more powerful for the way they remain free of clichés.
Singer-songwriter Sam Watts has a voice that's both clear and vulnerable, as well as a knack for letting small details speak volumes. In "Dark Blue Sound," distant but thunderous drumbeats occasionally punctuate the proceedings like raindrops, but Watts' weary, tender words and melodies deliver the clearest devastation — the heartbreaking calm after a turbulent storm.
