KCRW Presents: Mark Lanegan
By Jason Bentley, KCRW Music Director
Credit Sam Holden
Former Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan recently paid a visit to KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic.
Mark Lanegan's distinctive voice and sinister style have earned him an army of fans. He's lent his skills to Queens of the Stone Age, Screaming Trees, The Twilight Singers and Soulsavers, but his recent solo album Blues Funeral — billed as the work of The Mark Lanegan Band — is a real highlight of his discography.
In this studio session, Lanegan reveals some unexpected influences (including The Bee Gees), and describes "blues" as more of a feeling that can inform many styles of music, not just a genre label. His moody and menacing vocals make this performance one that continues to haunt us — in the best possible way, of course.
