Since 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival has brought live music to seaside New England. This year, you can see it even if you can't be there: NPR Music returns to the Newport Jazz Festival for a live video webcast and recording on August 4-5, 2012.

Along with hosts, engineers and producers from WBGO (New Jersey/New York) and WGBH (Boston), we'll present a live online stream of concerts from "the grandfather of jazz festivals." You can visit npr.org/newportjazz for live coverage — including photos, blog and Twitter updates and the webcast — and revisit the site afterwards to explore a trove of festival recordings. Recordings from 2011 and before are there now.

Founder George Wein and his team have again compiled a diverse lineup for his signature jazz event. Stars like Jack DeJohnette, Pat Metheny, Dianne Reeves, the Tedeschi Trucks Band and Bill Frisell are scheduled to perform, backed by a who's-who of modern jazz, including the Maria Schneider Orchestra, James Carter, Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas, Jason Moran, The Bad Plus, Christian McBride, Miguel Zenón, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Anat Cohen, Lewis Nash, Darcy James Argue and many more. A schedule of our broadcast will appear close to the weekend of August 4-5.

NPR Music is also broadcasting from the Newport Folk Festival the previous weekend, beginning with a live webcast of Wilco on Friday, July 27 and continuing through Sunday, July 29. Visit npr.org/newportfolk for more information.

For more information about the lineup, visit the official Newport Jazz Festival website. We hope you can join us at npr.org/newportjazz, whether on a computer or via NPR Music's mobile apps.
