After raising more than $125,000 on Kickstarter, the synth-psych-rock group Black Moth Super Rainbow is set to self-release its fifth full-length record. The gritty, beat-heavy Cobra Juicy is due out on Oct. 23, but the band is giving fans an early taste now with the thick and dirty "Gangs in the Garden."

Black Moth Super Rainbow frontman Tobacco (a.k.a. Tom Fec) says on the band's Kickstarter page that Cobra Juicy is "a little more demon-skater" than previous albums. I have no idea what that means, but I like the way it sounds.

In an email, Tobacco writes that "Gangs in the Garden" is "one of those songs where none of the elements outside of the foundation are meant to make sense together. These are the ones I have the most fun making. Synth bass and a beat that sound like they could be from a night chase scene in an early-'80s movie, plus a couple all-American guitar lines recorded to micro-cassette, plus an almost cute voice singing about ritualistic stuff, plus some Tori Amos-style heavy panting over the phone."

If that description left you breathless, wait until you hear the rest of the record.

Tobacco recorded and produced Cobra Juicy on his own, but has assembled the live band for a tour this fall. You can hear more samples from the record on the Black Moth Super Rainbow Soundcloud page.
