Security Tapes Show Supermarket Glutton Stuffing Himself

Police in Kentucky say Trevor Runyon slipped into a supermarket and waited for it to close.Surveillance cameras show he then had a feast. He cooked and ate six steak, and washed them down with beer, shrimp and birthday cake. Police found him hiding in the ceiling.

Initially Jonathan stayed at home with their eldest son Egan, now 5, to save money on child care. To the couple's surprise, their household became a calmer, happier place, and they decided to extend the arrangement.

"She was bringing stress home and I was bringing stress home," Jonathan says. "Once I lost my job, the dynamic changed. I was happier and Egan was happier. There was no tension."

Jonathan juggles Zane and a stroller while rushing to pick up Egan at the neighborhood bus stop. Being the only stay-at-home father in the neighborhood was initially isolating, but he found men in similar situations through a local Yahoo group.

"We are not incapable people," Jonathan says. "That is the illusion that stay-at-home dads are trying to extinguish."

Jonathan is often the only father at the playground during the day and says once the mothers' initial discomfort passes they realize they are all in the same boat. "It's not about gender; it's what are the kids doing and how do we keep them out of trouble."

According to the Census Bureau fewer than about 3.5 percent of stay-at-home parents are fathers, but the figure doesn't include men who do some work and are their children's primary caregivers.

Jonathan finds other stay-at-home fathers through daddy's playgroups, online forums and conventions such as the National At-Home Dads Convention. "We talk about everything from diaper changing to sleeping habits to sports; random life things. It's a place where we can just be guys."

Jonathan says the notion of the "hapless" father shouldn't exist anymore. "Everybody as a parent is learning along the way."

The next time you see a father out shopping with his kids, you might need to check your assumptions.

"I'll get the, 'Oh, look, it's a dad! That's so sweet!' "says Jonathan Heisey-Grove, a stay-at-home father of two young boys in Alexandria, Va., who is pretty sure the other person assumes he's just giving Mom a break for the day. In fact, he's part of a growing number of fathers who are minding the kids full time while their wives support the family and who say societal expectations are not keeping up with their reality.

IRS Inquiries Crossed The Line, Tea Party Groups Say

Tea Party activists are calling for a full investigation, and possibly lawsuits, following revelations that the Internal Revenue Service flagged so-called patriot groups for extra scrutiny in applications for federal tax-exempt status.

Among those claiming unjust and unconstitutional targeting by the IRS is a group called TheTeaParty.net, which bills itself as the largest grass-roots conservative Tea Party organization in the country.
