Louisiana is in an educational slump due to bottom-ranking math scores throughout the state. Since 2007, it’s national ranking has been 44th and below. In order for things to change in Louisiana, teachers are coming together and forming better teaching skills for children. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has received a $1.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation. Professor Peter Sheppard, along with three other professors at UL Lafayette wrote and submitted this grant.
Annie, an international student who attends the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is facing discrimination by students from her very own country. As a Christian, Annie is looked down upon by her Hindu roommates. They make sure she is aware of their disapproval by stealing her food and making her feel like everything she does is a mistake. “It’s just like the Hindus treat Christians in India,” says Annie.
Rehearsals for “Comedy Tonight”, a UL Lafayette opera, are in full motion. It will feature two acts of scenes from several different shows. Abby Boudreaux, playing the role of Susanna in “The Marriage of Figaro” believes, “It actually will educate you a lot on different operas. We have stuff by Mozart, Rossini, Pergolesi, and Donizetti.
