"Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley. "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" by Aretha Franklin. "Son of a Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield. "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. All of these legendary songs were recorded at Memphis' American Sound Studio, the last of the five studios we're featuring in our trip to Memphis as part of the quarterly "Sense of Place" series.

No photographs were taken to freeze the frenzy that may have ensued on stage during globalFEST 2013, the annual one-night, dozen-band showcase of great up-and-coming musicians from around the world at New York City's Webster Hall last weekend.
Singer-songwriter Shelby Lynne has carved her own path as a respected independent artist. She got her musical start at an early age, learning to accompany herself on guitar at 7, and her first album featured a duet with the legendary George Jones, who said he was impressed with her ability to "own" a song.
