Singer-songwriter and fiddler Carrie Rodriguez makes her third appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va. Rodriguez has also appeared on Mountain Stage twice alongside songwriting legend Chip "Wild Thing" Taylor, who is often credited with discovering her talents while she was playing at a record shop in Austin, Texas.

The musicians in Paperhaus live in my hometown of Washington, D.C., so I've seen this dynamic band more than a few times. In fact, they put on some of the best house concerts in the city, over a hundred of them at their own venue, also called the Paperhaus, so I've seen them both in clubs and their intimate living room.

It was a cool, clear night in Austin, Texas, as the 2013 South by Southwest music festival was nearing its end. Bassist Chris Slorach, guitarist Alex Edkins and drummer Hayden Menzies — three affable guys from Canada who make up the band Metz — strode onto the stage at Bar 96 for Filter Magazine's Dr. Martens Showcase and unleashed a torrent of hardcore guitar noise and brutal drumming that, in an instant, reconfigured everyone's night.
